I got this question from one of my readers, Tania:
Wondering if you’ve heard anything on the resorts standard rooms? I did see an article that said there would be The Little Mermaid & Nemo standard rooms. Wondering if this is true as I have 2 little boys & when we go down it is going to be more cost effective for us to stay in a standard room versus the family suite.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opens in 2012 at Walt Disney World. The value resort will be adjacent to Pop Century, and it’s being touted as a major expansion of Disney’s family suite offerings.
But the resort will also have standard hotel rooms like Disney’s other value resorts. The 864 standard hotel rooms will be in The Little Mermaid section of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. The hotel will open in sections, and The Little Mermaid section is slated to open last – in December 2012.
Ironically, The Little Mermaid hotel rooms will be in the first buildings built at the Art of Animation site. Back before the economy went belly-up, Disney was actually building a second phase of the Pop Century Resort on this site. Those buildings were never completed, and and they will become The Little Mermaid section of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. The fact that they are opening later than the family suites speaks to Disney’s desire to expand its family suites inventory first.
The Little Mermaid rooms will have an under the sea feel, and will be standard hotel rooms, with one or two beds, one bathroom and no kitchenette. Here’s a rendering of one of The Little Mermaid guest rooms:
If you’re curious about the family suites at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, this post has more details: Disney World family suites.
