Yo-ho! Yo-ho! The Pirates League now sailing at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

The Pirates League is now open at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It’s located right outside the Pirates of the Carribbean ride in Adventureland.
The new attraction offers a “pirate makeover” to boys and girls of all ages, but the experience goes well beyond the makeup and bandana.
From the moment you step through the door, you are transported to the East India Trading Company’s storeroom, and it’s been taken over by pirates! There is stolen loot everywhere.
The pirates milling about inside The Pirate’s League are the real deal, too. I was wearing a tiara when I toured the attraction, and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it out the door with my “jewels” still intact. They were threatened by several greedy pirates inside! One of the pirates even tried to con me into leaving my crown at his “free crown polishing service.” (Yes, Theme Park Mom in a tiara — I’ll have to explain that in another post.)
When you enter The Pirate’s League, you (or your child) are given a pirate name through a special ceremony that involves a ship’s wheel, treasure chest and dice.
Then you’re taken into the Muster Station where you choose a pirate look and the crew of the Black Pearl starts your transformation, while telling tales of the high seas. After taking a pirate oath, you’re led into the Sacred Sanctorium, where your pirate portrait is taken.
When you pick up your pirate portrait, you’re also given a “secret cypher” your key to more adventure within Adventureland – you can find clues and discover treasure, and also meet Captain Jack Sparrow himself. So, The Pirates League experience continues even after you’ve left.
